Bio: Buy fake passport? How to avoid getting caught

Fake passport 101: How to avoid getting caught

Online firms like Web Summit are being warned to be aware of a new type of scam being used to lure potential employees into buying fake travel documents.

Fake passport 101: How to avoid getting caught

The Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) has warned that one new type of scam being used by people seeking employment in companies like Web Summit is to use fake or stolen passports.

The ESRI said it is sending out "a number of alert emails" to companies which offer work on the Web Summit website.

The alert follows the arrest of two Irish men in Poland last week as part of a gang suspected of supplying bogus visas for foreign workers.

The men, aged 33 and 31, are believed to have sold bogus Polish visas to about 20 people living in Ireland.

The suspected fake visas were offered for sale on the website of a company in Poland and the two men arrested in Poland are thought to be part of a network of "local partners" who facilitated the purchases.

ESRI chief economist Conall Mac Coille said this week that people using the websites of companies like Web Summit may think that they are buying genuine documents but they could still be cheated by buying a false visa.

He told RTÉ that the EU had been putting a lot of resources into cracking down on trafficking and smuggling of fake passports.

But he said there is also a need for these scams to be tackled.

"We are getting to a point where we can now travel through the Schengen area without a visa and that is a huge development in terms of access to free movement across borders and for legitimate travelers it is fantastic news.

"Unfortunately, as with all good things, it comes with a big risk," he said.

"It comes with a risk of being ripped off and that is what is happening with bogus or stolen passports.

"I think the risks associated with fraudulent travel documents are greater than the risks associated with fraudulent documents."

He said he hoped the EU would launch a campaign to warn of the risks.

"People should be wary that fraudsters are lurking in the shadows and that they are out to get you. They are out to rip you off and we should be very wary. I think they should be aware that they should not take advice from people in countries that have a negative reputation for trust and integrity," he said.

"And particularly people who will not give you an independent rating. In the same way that you would not take advice from a doctor who has a poor professional rating from any other medical association."

To conclude, buy fake passport?

1. Research the company and the people using the websites.

2. Pay with money to avoid having to pay for a check or forwarding service, as well as the cost of the passport itself. https://buyrealdocsonline.com/product/california-id-card/
